Molly Ellis at Ewe Sir Paper & Textiles
Ewe Sir is an Irish paper goods and textile range by artist Molly Ellis.
Her wildlife art is designed with the individual character and personality of each animal in mind to awaken nature in the hearts and homes of the owner. Each piece stitches together the connection between human and animal to evoke a kindred spirit.
Her work is made from a range of natural and collected materials, such as raw wool fibres, preserved flora, and vintage fabrics. She transforms these into endearing and unusual gifts and collectibles for the animal lover, dreamer and nature enthusiast .
I live on the coast in the picturesque west of Ireland. Beautifully situated at the base of forest, it provides both my home and all the wildlife prefect protection. Having grown up in the city near a loch full of cranky ducks and mad geese. I love exploring the wild nature of the countryside.
All my illustrations are inspired by my devotion of animals and my desire to capture their spirit and personality. I trail the countryside and forests hoping to glimpse and study each little creatures unique traits. On lazy days I pop lots of seed in the bird feeder, the benefit of living so close to the forest.
How I make it
I combine traditional and contemporary needle felting techniques to create unique and unusual pieces. I collect raw lambswool from a small local farm and along with a select sample of wools from all over the world, I carefully choose colours, textures and species that reflect the nature and character of the animal I am working on. I secure these strand by strand using a single barbed needle to compose my richly detailed pieces. This along with free motion stitching allows me to elaborately build homes, nests and dens for my little guys.
